Thanks to Dan Mick for this one:
1. Initialize the x86 boot partition using
mkfs -F pcfs -o S,s,B=/boot/mdbootbp,b=BOOT,i=/boot/strap.com \
/dev/rdsk/c?t?d?p0:boot
The above step installs the boot loader.
2. Copy the files from /boot to this partition.

Original question:
Hi,
I tried the following in attempting to clone a Solaris 8 x86 Disk:
1. Used fdisk to create 1 DOS and 1 Solaris partition
2. Copied all the Solaris stuff over using ufsdump/ufsrestore
3. Created a DOS partition on /dev/rdsk/c0d0p0:boot and copied files
from /boot over to it.
4. Ran "installboot pboot bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0d0s2"
Tried to reboot, but the machine won't boot. It seems to be related to
how the /boot partition is created, but I'm not sure how that works.
Any suggestions appreciated.
-Thanks
Suresh
