Thanks for all the responses. Totalnet by Syntax sounds like it
will do what I want so I'll be checking that product out.

Check out Xinet. (http://www.xinet.com ) One of their
VP's is Scott Seebass (UNIX System Administration
Handbook co-author) so they are UNIX knowledgable. We
just purchased their FullPress software (After checking
Helios and leaving IPT [IPT is moving more toward
Windows and away from UNIX environments and support])
for our production server and it works well. They may
have a toned down version (FullPress is pre-press
software).
Their phone number is 1-510-845-0555 (California).
HTH,
John

We use Totalnet from Syntax. It will use whatever authentication scheme your
underlying OS uses, in your case NIS+. The newer version also uses LDAP.

I have been running a Mac and NT environment on Solaris servers for nearly two
years now, it works great. Totalnet does come with the Solaris distribution,
with a single license. The version that comes with Solaris is usually several
versions behind. The latest is 6.0.

I'm not sure about your NIS+ and password issues, but we use
Xinet and have been very happy with it. Easy to install/configure/
maintain, and it just plain works.

I believe our Xinet is happily coexisting with NIS, not sure about NIS+.

Check out CAP (Columbia Appletalk Package?) and Netatalk
(http://www.umich.edu/~rsug/netatalk/). In my experience, Netatalk is the
better choice (a bit easier config, still being actively developed). I don't
remember the level of password integration or encryption.

Try out Mac NFS (nfs client) by Thursby http://www.thursby.com/ you will
need pcnsfd. Or for a server based product even Total Net server
