The solution was to recompile db with the parameter -enable-compat185

I'm trying to compile the GNOME libraries v1.2.3 on E250 with
Solaris 8, but
I get an error "Your db library is missing db 1.85 compatibility
mode."
Could someone shed light on this situation?
