Birger Wathne and Chuck Duerson suggested Sun's memtool available from
ftp://playground.sun.com/pub/memtool
I think I'll find a lot of use for memtool but it's not for non-experts.
Stephen Harris pointed out /usr/ucb/rusage which dumps out the entire struct
usage contents for a child process. Should have remembered that but
/usr/ucb left my PATH many releases ago :-) I think I'll create a little
AWK script to post process the numbers and see how it goes.
