Hello managers,
i got no answers and i found no general solution, but one partial solution,
that is a big step for my local problem:
The Xserver for NCD-Xterminals understand the following syntax to add
(at least) 2 different fontservers:
tcp/host1+host2:7100
^^^^^^^^^^^
where host1/host2 are the "simple" hostnames of the servers, where the
fontservers are running. This can be done via "xset" or via the
NCD config-file. And then as long as at least one of the fontservers
on host1 or host2 is reachable anything works as being expected.

----My original question was:
Hello managers,
how can i change/set the timeout-behaviour for my fontpath?
I set my fontpath this way:
xset fp= tcp/host1:7100,tcp/host2:7100
to make my fonts available via fontserver and be not dependant on availability of one host.
Then i stopped the fontserver on host1 to simulate that host1 is not available for some reason.
Then i can wait as long as i'm patient (more than 5 minutes!/forever?), but i can't bring up neither a new xterm nor netscape nor anything else which needs a font...
So, how do i make my Xserver aware that host1 is not available and that he should ask host2 for a font?
