Summary: Keyboard Error

All,

Problem:I am running solaris 2.6 on an ultra 10 (brand new, just got it
today). I
tried two types of keyboards, one that came with the machine and an older
 style sun keyboard, both produce:
 loadkeys:ioctl (KIOCLAYOUT): Timer expired

Solution: Apply patch 105181. I tried different keyboards with no luck.

Thanks for all your help,

Hi Paul !

I saw this behavior only on Type 6 keyboards connected to machines
running 2.5.1 or 2.6. Under Solaris 7 and 8 there was no problems. There
is a patch, however which enable those keyboards (type 6) to be used
with 2.5.1 or Solaris 2.6 machines. Check sunsolve.
The only thing I don't understand is the news message you quoted. The
guy there was experiencing the same problems with.older , type 5
keyboards, which works very well without any patch.

Regards,
George
