Thanks to all who responded. The overwhelming response was "You need more
than 1 interface to have the sparc act as a router".
My goal was to take one 20 node ethernet network, create 2 subnets and have
the sparc box act as the middleman. I created 2 interfaces,
le0 and le0:1 with 2 ip address: one on one subnet and the other on the
other subnet) and installed firewall software to restrict communications and
made all the nodes point to the sparc/router as the defaultgateway. The
procedure went well and allowed me to create a pseudo firewall where I could
do some basic static firewall setup and routing restriction. Ultimately, the
"firewall" was not really secure because everything was on the same
broadcast medium. The end result was 2 vlans and a neat firewall excercise.
Thanks again to all who responded. Next step is have 2 separate networks and
the sparc in the middle with 2 true separate iterfaces. :)
