The answer:
as I was afraid, Bind has no way of having a CNAME for a zone. David
Brierley did have an interesting suggestion, though. If anyone else
needs to do this, just make the master for the real zone also the master
for the fake zone. Then write a simple script that reads in the real zone
file and generates the fake zone file, with all machine names a CNAME to
the real zone name. Although I have not done it, this should work as long as
that script is called regularly via cron...
