SUMMARY: Disk lay out saved in a file somewhere????

Folks,

Is there a dir. like lvmconf in HP where disk configuration is saved on SUN
SOLARIS?

"vfstab" file and info from "format" command should be okay to restore a disk
layout ..right?
Where does "prtvtoc" and "format" get info from? Are these commands looking in
some "disk.conf" file?

"man" on these commands do not say much.

Appreciate inputs.
