Thanks for all who responded. Special thanks to Brett Lymn and Matthew Lee
Stier.

Lingual Notice: Just in case I mess up the English language in this summary,
pleas bear with me. I would love to see you write Dutch.

All who responded agreed on the fact that the application tried to use more
colors than the system could display. Many of you suggested to kill some
colour hogging application. Netscape was doing great in the polls.
Unfortunatly Netscape wasn't even installed on the system, so that wasn't
going to help. In fact the only application running on the system was the
application I was having the problem with. I couldn't figure out how killing
my application was going to help, so I skipped that.

Matthew Lee Stier suggested to install the NOFLASH library and refered to
the Colormap FAQ. The noflash library didn't help, but I learned a lot from
the mentioned FAQ. In case you're interested, try these urls:

I exchanged a couple of messages with Brett Lymn, which finaly led to the
conclusion that our hardware can display only 256 colours, which is WAY too
little (too short? too few?, not enough anyway) for the application,
according to the release notes.

Many references were made to patches that I could install to get rid of this
problem, but so far I haven't been able to find anything applicable.

Last friday we decided to reinstall the entire aplication (for a reason
other than the colormap thingy) and much to our surprise we haven't seen the
colormap message since.

So much for the good news. The bad news is that we're now stuck with the
message "could not display pixmap".

Oh well, life is hard and then you crash. :-(
