thanks to all for the help given me.
I got many replies but every person writing me told me the first one is
the good way to do it or the second one, so I guess is it something
depending on the flavour you want to configure your system ?
There is any official method on how to set the hostname or both the
method are equivalent ?
thanks

Subject: how to name a solaris host ?

Hello,
I have this dilemma.

my host is righi.dhs.org

first of all I had defined
1)

hostname righi

and also

righi

in the file /etc/hostname.dnet0

then I Added

domainname dhs.org

domainname > /etc/defaultdomain

But after this working ok I Also tryed this thing
2)

hostname righi.dhs.org
rm /etc/defaultdomain

and I Set

righi.dhs.org in /etc/hostname.dnet0

and still everything works fine now and I have my complete qualified host
name written on the xdm window now while before I did not have.
What is the proper way to set the correct hostname ?
the first one or the second one ?

thanks

Rick
