Not much of a summary really -
there is a small switch located on the back of the SSA with 2 settings
DIAG or DIAG EXT.
It was switched to DIAG EXT which means extended diagnostics.
I powered down the unit, switched said switch to DIAG and powered back on.
Result = normal boot up time.
