SYNOPSIS:
Can be done with xvfb but only if I upgrade my Xwindows to X11r6.
OS:
SunOS 4.1.4
HARDWARE:
Sun SPARCstation 2 -thru- SS20
Some with graphics cards, others with ASCII terminal heads off serial port
A.
ORIGINAL QUESTION:
Does anyone know if it is possible to display to a null $XDISPLAY device in
Xwindows or OpenWindows on standard SunOS 4.1.4? I am looking for the
Xwindow equivalent to /dev/null. Want to display perfmeter to a null Xwindow
device so that perfmeter can be ran a machine which does not have a
graphical head and log its monitoring to an ascii file. The syntax I am
using is...
$OPENWINDOWS/bin/perfmeter -a -s 600 -l -n $FILE $HOST -display ${XWIN}:0.0
-iconic -fn fixed
SUMMARY:
Can only be done with X11R6 and xvfb. As I don't have X11R6 running on
SunOS 4.1.4 and no plans to do such the only way to do what I want is
display perfmeter iconiced on a head ( $HOST == $XWIN ). If host does not
have head send display to another host which does have a head ( $HOST !=
$XWIN ).
For those who have X11R6 and need xvfd follow these links...
