put the following lines in your /etc/system file and reboot:

* The following was inserted for the Netscape Enterprise Server
* to fix freezing of the server with the message: too many open files

set maxuprc=1024
set rlim_fd_cur=1024
set rlim_fd_max=2048

* end of modification for Netscape
