Dear managers,
First of all, thank you very much for your overwhelming answers, and for
your kindness. You were too many to respond I can not even name you all :=)
The only reply is as Solaris is an SVR4 Operating System, the 3rd
party/unbundled software must be installed in /opt.
Some others points are important :
- /opt is a mounted partition (500 Mo and more) and is not the same than
the root partition. If /opt is not mounted it is linked from a directory
in an other partition.
- the software package must check the availibility of sufficient disk space
during the installation.
- the software packages must be installable anywhere on the disk. /opt/XXX
is the default value, but the user/administrator must be able to change
it in order to match the company policies. The software package must use
the BASEDIR variable (with the default value of /opt) and musn't use any
hardcoded PATH.
- and, take a look at "man filesystem" :=)
I have also learned that lot of you prefer to have a separate partition for
/var !!!
