The answer, which came very quickly from many people, was to boot from
the original CD into single user mode, mount the appropriate FS to the
CD's FS, then copy the deleted files across ie
#boot cdrom -s
#mount /dev/dsk/cXtXdXsX /a
#cp /appropriate_cd_filename /a/platform/sun4m/appropriate_file_name
