Hi,
The responses from Eugene Choi and Adzman S. Kasim were perfect, especially from Adzman whose steps I've followd precisely to Absolutely solve the problem.
Thanks to both of them.

Put installation CD into cdrom.
At ok prompt, "boot cdrom -s"
When you get the command line prompt,
you'll mount the /,/var,/usr,/opt partitions on the disk under a mountpoint
(/a?) in its tree structure.
In /var/sadm/patches/<patchid>, there is a script called backoutpatch.
Read it for the option to run under a relocated root directory & run.
Remove the patches you think is causing the problem & /etc/halt & reboot.
Otherwise, follow your disaster recovery plan to recover your system.
(Only an incompetant would not have a way of recovering their entire
operating system & configuration if their root disk died...)
Good luck,

I have encountered this problem previously. What happened was the
kernel patch didn't complete. I installed recommended patch and of
cource I ran the "install_cluster" script. So the script didn't show
an error indication and I didn't view the
/var/sadm/install_data/Recommended_2.6.log which shows that the kernel
patch didn't complete.
What you can do is, try to boot the machine from a CDROM and mount
all the partition accordingly. If you mounted the root partition on
/a/root then mount the internal usr, var, and opt absolute to the
/a/root. And then try to reinstall the patch that broke by using the
script which contain inside the patchid. However, when you run the
installpatch script, try to specify the directory that the patches
should be applied to.
