Q: 360Mhz cpu dont work in a Ultra2

A: Ultra2 machines only support 200/300/400Mhz cpu's. 360Mhz cpu's are
designed for U60. Thus a serious no-go. Funny though it runs on 224Mhz.

Thank-you's to Casper Dik and Sydney Weinstein!

from Casper Dik:

The Ultra2 doesn't support 360MHz processors. It will misinterpret the processor specification code.

The 360Mhz processors will expect a 120MHz bus; AFAIK, they're only supported in the Ultra 60. The Ulta2 has a bus that is capable only of 100MHz and it supports 167, 200, 300 and 400MHz CPUs. -- from Sydney Weinstein:

the Ultra 2 only supports 200, 300, and 400MHz CPU's, the bus runs at a different speed that the U60 that the 360's were designed for.

I don't know what speed a 360 wouldrun at, but it sounds like its doing a different clock divider as if its one of the older 167's. --
