SUMMARY :
===========
Many among the above suggested me to use "rlogin", "rsh", I was aware of this already, Brian Scanlan & Daniel Polombo told me what the man page says exactly, telnet wont use "-l" option for logging in as that user (parameter), it only sets the variable "USER" to that of the parameter mentioned with "-l" option after logging in. I really couldn't find advantage of this option (please let me know if you have information on this). I wanted to use telnet in a similar way to that of "rlogin" and "rsh", it seems that its not possible on Solaris 2.6, but I can use this option from solaris to login to linux machine, it works as per my expectation.
Steven, I will let you know if I come across such option(s) in future.
Thanks again
Krishna Murthy

Hi Admins,
Thanks a lot for the help, many of them in the list are suggesting me to use "rlogin -l <login_id>" or "rsh -l <login_id>", I know I can use any one of these but I'm experimenting with "telnet", and man page says its possible to use <login_id> as the parameter with "telnet" command, I want make use of this feature.
Thanks in advance

Hi Admins,
I want to use arguments with telnet command, telnet man page gives an option to specify username (-l option) with telnet, so that I can login as telnet -l user_name and directly get password prompt for the login-id "user_name", but somehow I'm not able to get this and it again prompts me for the user_name, if anyone has set this up (I know I need to tweak .telnetrc, .pref/environ files) and is working please let me know.
I'm experimenting with SUN Solaris 2.6,
I will summarise,
Thanks in advance,
Krishna Murthy
