Hope to get some great input..
I'm doing a backup using tar to a tape..
After I type # tar cvf /dev/rmt/0 /export/home2/software
I find that the root file system always fills up. However, I do
notice
lights on the tape device indicating activity and also see the
contents
of the tape when I do a tar tvf /dev/rmt/0
Does anyone have any suggestions on why this is happening.

Solutions :
Thanks to everybody who e-mailed. I've got the summarised solutions
below since there were
numerous responses.
The system was not rebooted withe the boot -r option (reconfiguration
boot) after the tape device
was added. Thus it wasn't visible to the system. The commands mt -f
/dev/rmt/0 failed.
After revoming the entires in the /dev/rmt directory, I did a boot -r
and the tape device was seen.
After that I used tar cvf /dev/rmt/0n to perform a backup of the file
system I desired without rewinding the tape
Thanks again
