Hello all!
Below is the original question.
Thanks for all the quick responses.
As most of the responses suggested, the tape drive was faulty. The tape drive
had numerous soft errors. I tried cleaning the drive but no luck.
I have replaced it with another drive and everything is working fine now.
Thanks again
Harry

Subject: DUMP error
Hello all!
We have a SUN Sparc Classic running Solaris 2.5.1.
I get the following error during a cron job backup. It does backup /, /usr, and
/opt filesystems, but, when it's dumping /export/home, I get the following
error:
DUMP: Level 0 dump on Fri Apr 30 23:04:46 1999
DUMP: Writing 63 Kilobyte records
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Fri Apr 30 23:16:15 1999
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch
DUMP: Dumping /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s1 (vricl3:/export/home) to /dev/nrst12.
DUMP: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
DUMP: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
DUMP: Estimated 118664 blocks (57.94MB) on 0.00 tapes.
DUMP: Dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: Dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
DUMP: Write error 16 feet into tape 1
DUMP: NEEDS ATTENTION: Do you want to restart?: ("yes" or "no") DUMP: The
ENTIRE dump is aborted.
I have tried with a new tape but no success.
Any ideas. I'll summarize.
Thanks
Harry
