This list is awesome.
Upon receiving response, I checked the download file with file command and
it tells me it is text file. I looked at it and it is already in pkgadd
format. Apparently, netscape already uncompressed it during the download.
I renamed the file back to gcc-2_8_1-sol26-sparc-local and run pkgadd -d .
to install the package.
Many thanks to all the replies. There are just too many names to mention
here.
Thank you again and happy computing to you all.

Original Question:
Hello to All:
I have run into very strange problem with gunzip
Here is the detail:
We are running Solaris 2.6 on Ultra-Enterprise II.
# pkginfo GNUzip
utility GNUzip GNU zip 1.2.4 SPARC Solaris 2.6
#
I just went to sunfreeware.com to download the
gcc-2_8_1-sol26-sparc-local.gz files.
I have tried either IE or Netscape 4.5 to download the file. Downloads
were successful.
# ls -al gcc*
-rw-r--r-- 1 zhhuan ist 26762240 Apr 16 13:22
gcc-2_8_1-sol26-sparc-local.gz
I then use following command to unzip it.
gunzip gcc-2_8_1-sol26-sparc-local.gz
Got this error message:
gunzip: gcc-2_8_1-sol26-sparc-local.gz: not in gzip format
Any suggestion to try? Thanks in advance
I have used the gunzip before to unzip the top and was able to install top
without problem
