So far I've recveived no real solution other than the following from
Rich Kulawiec:

I'd recommend switching to Amanda. Solstice Backup is based on Legato
Networker, one of the most nightmarish and unreliable pieces of software

that it has been my displeasure to deal with during my two decades
of full-time Unix work. I believe you'll find that switching to Amanda
gives you an open-source solution that works across multiple (many, in
fact) platforms and which does not suffer from the flakiness of what
you're trying to use now.

Thanks also go to Jeff Kennedy for pointing me to the Networker list
where Amanada seems to be discussed fairly regularly, so there's a bit
more incentive to switch.

Subject: [networker] Trying to script Solstice Backup 4.2.6.a on Solaris

2.6

Hello all,

I'm trying to fully automate tape mounts, media index management,
backups,
and tape unmounts/ejects with a cron job. Has anyone else successfully
done
this? Examples would be more than appreciated.

I used the Solstice gui to create my backup jobs and groups. Thus, in my

script, I run the command:
/usr/sbin/nsr/savegrp default

My biggest problem right now is that the command:
/usr/sbin/nsr/nsrmm -d -v -s hostname
removes all media index entries for all volumes when run in the context
of
a script. I just want to clean index entries for the currently mounted
tape. Any ideas?

Thanks very much; I'll summarize.
