Thanks to all who responded:
The conclusion is that bind 8.1.2 runs fine on SunOS 4.1.4 and the upgrade is a
breeze. Below are the responses:
1.We did it here about 2 months ago, and other than getting permissions and
the file formats right, we didn't have any problems.
2.No problem at all!
Also there is a perl script which will convert your old config file to
named.conf format.
3.Seriously, 8,x works fine on 4.1.4. My version of gnu (ok, I was lazy
and am still using 2.7 ...) has an optimizing bug; go past -O4 and the
bind (or other) executable dies silently, but bind itself runs fine.
4.Had it running for about 2 years with no problems. I say "had" because
the drive crashed so I upgraded to Solaris. :-)
5.I am running 8.1.2 on all of my servers with no problems.
