SUMMARY: Lance Ethernet le0.

Hi,

Thanks to all those who took interest and special tributes
to those who concieved this list. The list of friends who
replied is so long that I can not mention each and every
body here.(sorry for that ;-)

The unanimous response was that the new sun boxes are
shipped only with hme interface. Only older systems had
Lance (10 Mb/s) interface. On new systems hme is enough
because it works in autosensing mode and can be used
either with a 100 Mb/s or 10 Mb/s hub.

If auto-sensing fails then /etc/system can be edited to
force the speed of ethernet to 10Mb/s. e.g

set hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_10hdx_cap=1
set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap=0

I have connected my 10Mb/s hub with hme0 and it is working
fine.

Best Regards

John Black

My original question:
--------------------
  Hi,

I am working on SunOS 5.7 Generic sparc SUNW,Ultra Sparc-IIi
360 MHz running Solaris 7.

By default solaris 7 comes pre-configured with a Sun Fast
100 bast T ethernet driver (hme0). I want to connect Sun box
 to a 10 base T hub instead of 100 base T. when I run
'ifconfig -a' I see only hme0 driver and le0 is not displayed
.
An attempt to run 'ifconfig le0 plumb' gives the following
 error message:

le0: No such device or address

When I run 'ifconfig le0 up' I get the following error message:

ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS: le0: no such interface.

Is it so because my Sun box does not support Lance ethernet
driver? Please advise me on how to configure my system for Lance ethernet.

  Thanks in advance.
