SUMMARY: Tape Drive Woes....

OK, as many of you pointed out, it was an obvious problem...write protect
tab...

It was an older tape drive that I had never seen before, and I didn't look
carefully at the actual tape.

Thanks to all who pointed it out for me.

Now I feel really stupid...
