Original Question:
I'm going to upgrade my enterprise 3000 server from solaris 2.5.1 to solaris
7. Perl, Samba, gcc, etc are installed and works well under 2.5.1.
The question is, after upgrade, will these software still work? Any
experience?

Answer:
Most of the following people say that the perl and samba binaries that were
compiled for 2.5.1 or 2.6 work well on 7. But gcc may not work well. The more secured way is to recompile gcc first and then others.

By the way, solstice backup 4.2 will not work under 7. SUN support engineer recommends solstice backup 5.1.1. (solstice backup 4.2 is not y2k compliant)
