Thanks to David Stern <dave@davka.gsfc.nasa.gov>
for the reply. And forgive me for this late SUMMARY, I was away
due to some reason.
Below is solution from David Stern :
The error message pretty much spells it out. To diagnose,
login under failsafe (under options-->sessions) then enter one by
one the commands
xset fp+ /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3/
xset fp+ /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3bitmaps/
....
This will tell you which has the corrupted/missing the fonts.dir file.
Best bet for fixing is to tar the bad one up from another machine
and restore.
-------- Yesterday I'd tried as suggested but got another error.
-------- After doing xset fp+ /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3/ , I got
-------- error can't open display, and when I do
-------- setenv DISPLAY <server_name>:0.0 I still got the
-------- same error.
-------- I'm still trying and I'll come back when I got the solution.
-------- Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
-------- Thank You very much

I could not start openwin and am getting this below error messages
:
failed to set default font path
'/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3/,/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3bitmaps/

o/,/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/,/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Xt+/'
One of the directories in the list above does not exist
or it does not contain a valid 'fonts.dir' file
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
giving up.
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit: Connection refused (errno 146): unable to
connect to X server

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
