SUMMARY: Odd printing error (CAP)

I got no responses to my question, but I finally figured it out on my own.

I was having trouble installing CAP appletalk printing in the Solaris
2.5.1 print system. A script was being called with the wrong number
of arguments.

The problem was the the file /etc/lp/filters.table got corrupted. In some
of my permutations of odd printing methods, I created an entry for a
filter called xl608 (which is the name of my printer). Apparently this
took precedence over the filter which should have been called, with the
result that /etc/lp/interfaces/xl608 called itself instead of papif.
The cure was to purge that entry from the table and restart lpsched.

Even after reading the Solaris sysadmin manual at docs.sun.com two or
three times, I can't say that I understand the flow of control among the
various print filters. This is something that needs a clear explanation.
