Thank's to all who confirmed my guess that it was a configuration problem
and greg_polanski@adc.com in particular who lead me to experiment with the
right thing. All I needed to do was set the entry
DSmailhost.$m
in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf to my email relay host. That is set mailhost to
the host name of my email server.
