SUMMARY: pwd: cannot determine current directory!

Hi all.

First thanks for the quick replies. I got a large number of replies so
it's difficutl to say thanks to everybody personally. Almost all of them
told me that this happens if you remove a directory you''ve cd'ed into, or
if the directory you're in or one above you doesn't give you
read or execute permissions and you do try a pwd (or anything that'll try
to get the pathname of your location). Neither of these was the problem.
george@esa.nascom.nasa.gov (George Dimitoglou) and
Maurice.Levie@mail.sprint.com (Maurice Levie) hit the nail on the head in
that I had encountered a stale NFS handle. The directory is being mounted
by AFS and I only control a lab of about 30 machines, not the company wide
AFS of hundreds of Solaris machines.
