You need to have rpc.yppasswdd running.

YP problem?
Here's the system:
SunOS bigdog 5.6 Generic sun4m sparc SUNW,SPARCstation-20
When I try to change my password:
bigdog% yppasswd
yppasswd: Changing password for mjgarcia
Enter login(NIS) password:
New password:
Re-enter new password:
Create clnt failure: RPC: Program not registered
Permission denied

The same thing happens as root.
Both ypserv and ypbind are running. I can login. ??
