Greetings, all, and special thanks to:
Umesh Chandra Singhal <usl@ho.wipro.co.in>
Dieter Wurm <dieter.wurm@de.origin-it.com>
"Keating, Peter" <PKeating@mits.com.au>
for helping out with my disk-set problem.
Umesh and Peter both suggested that I was unable to get the disk
recognized from both machines because (despite the devices being called
the same thing (c1t2d0)) the path_to_inst file needed to be adjusted so
that the same minor number was used for that device on both machines.
Once I did that, everything worked!
Dieter suggested that I would be unable to add disks to the diskset
without being the owner of the diskset. While this is true, it wasn't the
source of my grief. I couldn't take control of the diskset from the other
machine without adding the other machine to the diskset, and I couldn't do
that because the device wasn't common between the two machines.
Thanks again for all your help!
