who clarified that I need to get gated if I want to run OSPF on Solaris
2.6.

The following excerpt from docs.sun.com led me to believe there may be
an OSPF routing daemon available in 2.6.

Gautum,

There is no native OSPF in Solaris 2.6. You can add this suport
with GateD. A Solaris version is available at:
ftp://playground.sun.com/pub/GateD

You then run gated instead of routed, providing access to
OSPF, RIP, and several other routing protocols.
To find out more about GateD you can checkout their home page:

Gautam,

I do not think that OSPF is supported with the Solaris 2.6 distribution.
If you want to get support for OSPF, check out www.gated.org. You will
have to download and build the source yourself for the gated dameon, which
supports a bunch of dynamic routing protocols including OSPF. Check
www.sunfreeware.com to see if they have a compiled binary available before
you go through the hassle and effort of building the source.

Also, while I am far from being an IP routing guru, I would recommend that you
seriously reconsider the need for OSPF on a Solaris desktop or general
purpose machine and come up with a justification for it. static default
routes work just fine for non-router machines. If your routers are running
OSPF, they will take care of selecting the best path and so on. Why burden
the Sun box with maintaining a routing table for your site in memory and
updating it?
