SUMMARY: ypbind on NIS Servers

Howdy all,

I think I tracked down the issue of a ypserver loosing
bindings to itself on Solaris 2.6.

Problem: On a seemingly random basis a Solaris 2.6 ypserver
reports that ypbind cannot bind to it's self.

Answer(?): This issue seems to only occure after patches have been
applied which affect NIS. The first problem occured after installing
Solaris 2.6/HW 3/98. After installing the patches ypbind started to loose
it's bindings to itself. We ran ypinit -m and all ran fine.

Next, we installed another NIS patch for 2.6 and the problem re-occured.
Once again, we re-ran ypinit -m and the problem stoped.

My guess is that ypinit -m needs to be re-run after NIS related patches
for 2.6 have been applied. -- why? and is this the real answer? I'm not
sure. But after following these steps our problem has not re-occured.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Thanks to all who responded. From what I've seen from this list,
atleast 6 other peonle ran into this same issue - all with different
or no solutions.
