Thanks for the suggestions in checking the neccessary libraries for
"ls" and making sure they have all been copied to ~ftp/usr/lib.
I re-read the accompanying notes on wu-ftpd and there was a note on
Solairs 2.5.1. The libraries for Solaris 2.5.1 that were supposed to
go into ~ftp/usr/lib directory when the ftp users wanted to use
dynamically linked 'ls' didn't work. Instead users were asked to
copied the libraries from Solaris 2.5.
Since I am running Solaris 2.6 , I made an assumption that the above
statement applies to my case too. So I copied the "ls" and the
corresponding libraries from workstations running Solaris 2.5.
And vola!! It works!

Thanks a lot to the suggestions to users who sent a reply.
Paritcularly to Casper Dik who has given me a lot of advises.

Original question:

>Dear managers,
>I am currently setting up the anonymous ftp server on my Sparc10
>(Solaris 2.6) using wu-ftpd-2.4.2-beta-17 and encountered problems.
>1) According to man ftpd on Solaris 2.6, "/usr/lib/" needs
> to be copied to ~ftp/usr/lib and I could not find it in the
> said directory.
>2) When I ftp to the server as anonymous user, I could "ls" but "ls -l"
> did not work. "passwd","group" and "netconfig" are present
> ~ftp/etc.
>3) WHen I used "ncftp" to ftp as anonymous user, "ls" did not work. Nothing
> was listed. The version of ncftp I used was 2.0.5.
>Could you please advise on solving these problems? I have looked through
>the FAQ's on anonymous ftp and could not find a solution.
