    Answer summary:

It is possible to use DiskSuite to create a new, striped fs on
unallocated space (eg, a new hd). Then I could move the files of one of
my disks to the new fs, and grow it to use the space now freed, creating
a subdirectory in the new fs for each previous mounting point in order
to keep my apps going with little interruption. Or I could backup
everything on tape, destroy my current filesystems an restore everything
on a brand-new striped fs.

    Thanks!
