Hell Everyone,

Here is my original post.

Hi Everyone,

I am running DiskSuite 4.0 on a Sparc 1000E Server Solaris 2.4.

Let say I have a raid 5 configuration with 10 4GB disks.
And lets say that one of them fails.

Would it be feasible to bring down the system, replace the failed disk
and bring the system backup? Would DiskSuite rebuild the failed disk.

I already read the info about hot spares and extra disks, but wanted to
know if I could simple do the above without any problem?

Any input would be appreciated..
Thanks
Chris

Summary:

The consensus, is that is is possible to replace a disk with a new one.
You may have to run metareplace, but it is very possible under Raid 5.

It would be better though if you have a hotspare available, this will
ensure data integrity until you can swap out the bad disk...

I have not done it yet, so I can't really say more than what people have
written me.....

Thanks to all who replied
Chris
