My original question:
OK, here's a good one for you: I'm attempting to install 4.1.1_U1 on
a 3/80 using the cdrom. I can boot the CD ( >b sd (0,30,3) ), install
the miniroot, boot off of the miniroor, but then when I go to select the media
from sr0 (in suninstall), I get all sorts of nasty timeout and SCSI
errors...
I know there's a workaround, but I haven't done a Sun3x install in a LONG
while...
---The Solution:
Well, we figgured this one out locally before I got the right response from bismark@alta.Jpl.Nasa.Gov (Bismark Espinoza):
I was using a somewhat newer (caddyless) CD-ROM. Even though it had the regular micro-50 connector, it was a SCSI-2 drive, not supported by the kernel, and therefore when I booted the miniroot it could not support the CD-ROM drive. A few hours before Bismark's mail showed up, I ripped the CD-ROM drive out of one of our original 1000's, and hooked it up.
BINGO!
Thanks also go to all the other folks who responded, even though nobody else even came close...
