Thanks to all responders. Here is a typical answer, one of many:
Sun OS shipped with a bundled C compiler "cc". When SUN
moved to Solaris 2.x they dropped the bundled compiler
and forced everyone to buy a commercial product. Now the
old SUN OS compiler was NOT an ANSI C compiler which is
the crux of your problem.
Solution is to get the free GNU "gcc" compiler and install
it on the SUN OS box. This IS an ANSI compiler. Naturally
to do this you need to compile "gcc" which means you need
a C compiler.... However you really only need a very dumm
C compiler for this and "cc" on SUN OS will do fine.
