Summary: Installing GCC on Solaris 2.5.1

I've been having a lot of problems making GCC,
LIBG++, Perl, GD-1.14 on my Sun running Solaris
2.5.1, and unfortunately still have no success. I
tried stripping it down to the bare minimum in the
path (as Ian Wallace suggested), unfortunately my
problems have yet to disappear. For some reason,
compiling with the native "CC" compiler is fine, but
doing it with "GCC" just fails. I also tried loading
the binaries and then tried to build it from there
but with no luck. If anyone has any other
suggestions please let me know (besides rebuilding
the machine from scratch!)

Anyway, I do wish to thank the following people
(Dieter Gobbers and Ian Wallace) for their
suggestions. Thanks again.

There is a more recent version of libg++: 2.7.2.8

I had a similar problem when I showed up at my
current job. We had no compiler installed and they
were not planning on buying one either but we needed
one (we also need to compile perl from scratch).

To get the perl compile to work we had to strip the
environment down to it's bare essentials and then
everything went ok. This ment stripping the path to
/usr/bin /usr/sbin /usr/ccs/bin /usr/ucb and the
LD_LIB's was just /usr/lib
This might help you when you get over the hurrdle of
compiling 'gcc' and the libs.
