Thanks to all who responded. You were
all correct...

First, by adding 200 Meg of swap space,
I provided enough space for operators
to run ufsdump on scedule.

Second, I listed process memory usage using..
ps -eafl | cut -c45- | sort
and I found two interface programs that were
using respectively, 3 times and 30 times
as much memory as other programs in memory.
Now, I know what needs to be debugged...
(Does anyone know of a memory leak in perl? :-)

Third, two people suggested that I should be
using something other than ufsdump for my
nightly backups.

Thanks again to all who contributed.
