Ok:
the .rhosts part was what I was missing.
the command is:
ufsdump 0uf remotemachine:/dev/rmt/0 /local_dir
BUT you must have the machine being backed up in the remote machine's
.rhosts file in this format:
machine_being_backedup root

how do I do a ufs dump to a tape drive that is on another machine?
