The sequence of events that caused the problem:
1) I had System Commander running on the computer to switch from
Solaris and NT. (Then finally convinced my boss that we needed
Solaris only)
2) Deleted NT partition (which was where Sys.Com. stored the REAL
boot records) hoping to use the space as added space to the Solaris
partition --> ANY WAY TO DO THIS? I have a 2GB empty area on the
disk now which Solaris can't seem to use.
3) When system rebooted, it complained that there was no bootable disks
Attempted to correct the problem by:
1) Used installation CD and boot disks to load system, mounted the
system drive, and did an installboot. This process was done to the
tee as the manual explained it, so ended up installing the boot
record from the CD-ROM to the hard disk. (The path /platform... and
/kernel... would be files from the CD instead of the hard disk).
2) Now the system would come up and complain that it couldn't
re-locate/link the kernel
3) Tried a system install with the UPGRADE option which did NOTHING to
solve the problem
Finally it occurred to me WHICH boot records I had installed, so I booted
up using the CD and boot diskette and did an installboot, but this time,
made sure I used the images on the harddisk but prepending the mount point
of the hd to the paths. i.e. /tmp/mnt/platform... instead of /platform as
I originally had done. That did it.
Thanks for all the helpful hints/suggestions.
