Thanks to those who responded. Original question regards using ex to
behead (remove usenet headers from) files. While the commands work
within sed, sed will send the result to a temporary file. To reduce
these temp files, I wanted to use ex but was getting:
dumb: Unknown terminal type
The correct answer had to do with not finding
/usr/share/lib/term/terminfo/d/dumb
I copied /usr/share/lib/term/terminfo/u/unknown to this file
and ex is happy.
