Hi everybody,
this isn't really a summary - the problem is still unsolved. I'm
posting this to share the two responses I got.
>From glenn@uniq.com.au:
-----------------------
Some driver has stopped responding to interrupts, or something is
looking fo ra non-existant piece of hardware.
What, if any, sbus cards do you have installed on this box?
Have you been able to determine what process runs at the times these
messages come up?
--->From arthur@avalon.csg.psi.com: ------------------------------- i've never seen this happen before, but according to:
_PANIC! UNIX System Crash Dump Analysis_, by Chris Drake and Kimberly Brown
a level 6 interrupt comes from the on-board ethernet. sorry i know anything more, but maybe this will help... ---
Thanks to Glenn and Arthur! I haven't put any SBus cards into the box (it's an off-the-shelf configuration Ultra-1). I haven't noticed any ethernet problems, either. And no, I have no information about running processes so far since I found the syslog messages during a routine scan of the log files. But I keep an eye on it...

Thanks for your time Steffen.
