Hello all,

As a summary I will include all the e-mails; at the end I will have
the solution for NIS+ bug.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Sun Managers;

I had NIS+ up and running fine on a Solaris 2.5.1 box, but I noticed
that rpc.nisd is taking about 50MB of my memory and the following
messages were being added to /var/adm/messages :

Jun 3 16:50:31 sigma nisd[133]: nislib:get_group() object
"admin.prnewswire.com." is not reachable.
Jun 3 16:50:31 sigma nisd[133]: nislib:get_group:: Server out of
memory.
Jun 3 16:50:31 sigma nisd[133]: NIS+:NisDirCacheEntry()::myConstructor
- xdr_directory_obj failed
Jun 3 16:50:31 sigma nisd[133]: NIS+:NisDirCacheEntry()::myConstructor
- xdr_directory_obj failed
Jun 3 16:50:31 sigma nisd[133]: nislib:get_group() object
"admin.prnewswire.com." is not reachable.
Jun 3 16:50:31 sigma nisd[133]: nislib:get_group:: Server out of
memory.

So I patched it with patch # 103612-23, now the memory usage is
fine ( around 9MB) but I can not use Solstice GUI tool to add/remove
users/clients, I have to use command line. And I still get the above
warning, but every thing works fine (NIS+ tables are reachable from
clients, no errors on clients). Sun apparently has no solution for it
yet.

Is there any work around for this problem?

Thanks,
Vahid.

Depending on the version of AdminSuite you are running, there is a patch
to
AdminSuite that should fix your problem. You are correct that patch
103612-23 is

bad and that Sun has no -24 to fix it, but once it was backed out of our
systems, AdminSuite resumed normal operations (with the AdminSuite patch
in
place).

By the way, if you have a Solaris support contract, could you report the
problem

with 103612-23 and pass along Sun's estimated time for a functional
version of
that patch. 103612 fixes so many NIS+ problems that I feel very
uncomfortable
running without any version, but I can't find an earlier revision of
it...

Hi Marc,

We do have software/hardware contract with sun and I reported the matter
as an NIS+ bug. They will inform me of the solution they may come up
with.
The person I talked to, didn't know when Sun will have the bug fixed.

Sun strongly suggested not to back out of 103612-23 patch.

I totally agree that 103612-23 is bad and should be backedout/never
installed.
Let me know if you hear anything about a -24 rev of 103612.

The solution:

Install the patch # T103502-07 for AdminSuite 2.2 and T104468-06 for
AdminSuite 2.3.

Those pathes are not available to the public yet ( I am testing
T103502-07 for SUN ). It worked fine for me.

I reported my satisfaction to sun and asked them if I can give
the patch to others; they said since the patch is no officially
released, SUN will not support it, but I can give it away.

So, if you want the patch, let me know.

Vahid.
