Well, as usual the list comes up trumps. Casper was first off the blocks
with the correct answer, which is basically to use ioctl on a socket and
he also informed me that the door_* stuff is only for gethostbyaddr().
However, as Casper's answer required me to do some work, the bouquet goes
this time to Michael Gordon of Edinburgh University, who provided the
requested half a dozen lines of C code (actually 70 lines which basically
is a rewrite of ifconfig -a). Due to its length, I'll save everyone's
bandwidth by not posting it. If you need it, mail me. If I get a lot of
individual requests, I'll summarise again and include the code.
