SUMMARY: /etc/mail/aliases and NIS

My original message:

I have a Solaris 2.5 box running as my mail server. A different
2.4 box is my NIS master. We're not running NIS+.

The NIS master has a mail alias map which my mail server "sees".
How do I create the /etc/mail/aliases file on my mail server so that
it references this map? I tried putting "+" at the end of the
file but 'newaliases' reports that a colon is missing.

Summary:

The two people who responded pointed me to the /etc/nsswitch.conf
file. I already knew about that file but thanks anyway. The problem
I was having turned out to be solved by making an empty aliases
file and then running 'newaliases'.

With the empty file and the default nswitch.conf setting (which uses
the local file first and NIS second), I have the setup I want because
I'll be able to add purely local mail aliases later.

Thanks to Louis Hoo and Matthew Stier for responding.
