Well, it's been over a week now and we've made our decision on which
X server to buy for our current NT 4.0 needs: we're going to get
Omni X server from Xlink Technologies (http://www.xlink.com).
Your replies were outstanding! I received info on many great X servers
and NFS servers for NT 4.0, and I pass these along to the rest of you
for future reference...
Product Vendor URL Price (approx) Functionality
------- ---------- -------------- ----------------------------------
eXalt www.intergraph.com $105 X only
*free demo $95 NFS client
$120 NFS server
eXceed www.hummingbird.com $382 X only
PC-Xware www.ncd.com $198 X only
*free demo $273 X, NFS (both)
eXodus www.wpine.com $295 X only
*free demo
Reflection X www.wrq.com $500 X only
$600 X, NFS (both)
ChameleonNFS/X www.netmanage.com $431 X, NFS (both)
*30 day trial
Omni NFS/X www.xlink.com $164 X, NFS (both)
*free demo
*prices were quoted either over phone or from web sites (3-97)
The votes received for each were:
Product Recommended
------- -----------
eXalt 2
eXceed 12 (by far the most popular, but no demo and pricey)
PC-Xware 3
eXodus 1 (good, but fairly expensive - limited)
Reflection X 3 (supposedly the best, but the price reflects that)
ChameleonNFS/X 1
Omni NFS/X 0 (does anybody use it?)
XVision 1 (too slow for me)
I tried the demo from Omni and I personally like it! It fits well with our
current needs, has NFS included, can even do UNIX 'tar' from NT to UNIX
server! It's simplistic, and probably no user support, but for the price
I'll take my chances!
Thanks to all who replied! (too many to list...)
